    Bad Design
    really bad site design

So according to the designers or various stakeholders of this website, the reason that this ‘University Radio’ website uses lime green, gray, white, does not support podcasting or mp3 downloads is because of ‘friendly relations’ between the designer/development company and the university executives.

If this is true, which I can only hope is not, it bodes ill for the further betterment of website design for projects across the university. Who has ever heard of a university radio team that does not have its own podcasting station registered with iTunes or any other service? … and the lime green scheme?

Bad design, and really reeeaaaally slow streaming (even in Hong Kong), available now [here].

    Touch device compatibility

I’ve increased the height of the navigation bar elements (see left) for touch-device accessibility, e.g. the iPhone, iPod Touch and other upcoming devices, those with unpronounceable names.

    Humour in the Court

Until February 1986 the petitioner and Lee Can-may were on friendly terms for they had played mahjong together during the Chinese New Year.

    Mahjong scene in Lust, Caution

So perhaps the Honourable Judge did not get to see Lust, Caution, because in that movie, the director, Ang Lee, spent at least 30 minutes of the movie filming four women playing mahjong, all who had complicated relationships with each other to say the least.

    Tax and economics

I was going to write an article about how taxes should be raised when the economy is good and lowered or rebates offered when the economy is poor. But I don’t know the sentiment of the Hong Kong people…

We need more of these people

The world needs more of these people, to take full advantage of the freedom of speech that is the epitome of American success. Ladies and gentlemen, I present Mr. S. Colbert, who, like ViperFusion, is without fear and without flavour [sic].

    China Marches Ahead

Written by Cliff on Friday 11 January 2008 at 12:22 am

In another bold move to spite the Western world and their Western ways, China has become totally unpredictable and has begun to crack down on the flagrant and environmentally damaging use of plastic bags. This is according to the BBC. ViperFusion applauds China’s move to protect the environment. It awaits more action to help clean the air, water and soil.

    Death by Boredom

Just yesterday, a university blocked access to the press and media minutes after a death was reported in one of its Library Extension rooms. The death occurred, perhaps, because of boredom. (photo)

    Straight talk and retaliation

Written by Cliff on Wednesday 9 January 2008 at 1:28 pm

Yesterday, Stephen Roach, Chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia, reported on the Financial Times that US asset prices were overpriced and needed a painful period of adjustment and deflation. He also attempted to break the politician’s opium that China and its allegedly under-valued Renmenbi was to blame. This would have certainly hurt many politicians who had, in their strategy, some form of attack on the undervalued yuan. No one wants a recession.

Therefore, today on the Financial Times, a professor of the Chicago Business School reported on page 11 of the main paper that bankers’ pay was inconsistent with banks’ performance and thereby flawed. The column specifically referred to John Mack, who happened to receive a $40M bonus in 2007 but had declined a bonus payment this year. As we all know, John Mack is the Chief Executive of Morgan Stanley.

It appears that there was some cut and thrust in the papers following the rollercoaster equity markets in the recent weeks. We hope to see more soon.
